CLAIRE MARTIN
For this second gig promoted by Kineojazz we are delighted to welcome Claire Martin and her band - Jim Mullen (guitar), Laurence Cottle (bass) and Ian Thomas (drums).
Since her recording debut in 1992 Claire has has won many Best Vocalist awards and is now rightly considered one of the UK's finest jazz singers.
As well interpreting classic jazz standards Claire's repertoire also embraces contemporary material and her collaborators have included John Martyn, Noel Gallagher and Sir Richard Rodney Bennet.
“For my money she's not only the finest female British jazz singer of her generation but possibly of all time.”
(Jazz Times)"In an era when young jazz singers tend to sound far too much like their idols, there is no mistaking the voice of Claire Martin who combines a cool, burnished tone with the ear of a born musician."
(New York Times)"Wise and cultivated, satisfying, heavenly and fulfilling."
(New York Observer)
Claire's band features outstanding instrumentalists: Jim Mullen is a fiery guitarist out of the Wes Montgomery school - many will have first heard him with the pioneering jazz funk band, Morrissey - Mullen; Laurence Cottle is a virtuoso electric bass player who has played with Sting, Eric Clapton and Black Sabbath; Ian Thomas is one of the most in demand session drummers in the UK.

JOHN HARRIS TRIO
John Harris (guitar), Keith Baxter (electric bass) and Tony Kenyon (drums) grew up listening to rock music before turning their attention to jazz. The John Harris Trio takes the classic rock power trio, turns down the volume and applies it to sensitive readings of jazz, rock and pop standards from the likes of Joe Henderson, Jimi Hendrix and The Carpenters.
The Trio have been been playing in Brighton for over ten years with local musicians such as Ian Price, Jeff Howlett and Ela Southgate. John's teachers include legendary jazz guitarist Jim Hall, local saxophonist Geoff Simkins and respected New York guitarist Joshua Breakstone. He has most recently been seen playing with singer Joe Lee Wilson.
